  • Have a keen interest in romance and other fiction genres

All interested applicants, please email Donna with the subject: Beta Reader Position at betas@hottreepublishing.com. Include the following with your application:

  • A brief overview of why you would welcome the opportunity to take on this role and join the Hot Tree team.

Position OPEN: Final-Eyes Reader (Paid)

At Hot Tree Editing, we use the term final-eyes reader to describe an individual who is competent and well-versed in the English language and all that entails. It is a position for individuals to practice and perfect their editing skills, with the aim of gaining experience to potentially one day become an editor.

Final-Eyes Readers are assigned a Hot Tree Editing mentor (an experienced senior editor), who will support and guide them.

A final-eyes reader will, in many ways, carry out the same tasks as a proofreader. However, it is essential that they call upon the skills and knowledge of their mentor as often as necessary. We need final-eyes readers to be proactive researchers in order to develop their own knowledge base and clarify the rules of the English language and editing.

Applicants must:

  • Be familiar with US, AU, CA, and UK English spellings.

  • Be familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style or willing to access and familiarise themselves.

  • Have a minimum of beta reading experience.

  • Have an excellent understanding of English grammar rules.

  • Have a keen eye for detail.

  • Love reading.

  • Have a genuine willingness to learn and develop existing skills.

  • Meet deadlines.

  • Be willing to complete a final-eyes sample to be considered for the position.

All interested applicants, please email Becky with the subject: Final-Eyes Reader Position at edit@hottreepublishing.com. Include the following with your application:

  • Details of beta and/or proofing experience.

  • An outline of courses and education.

  • A brief overview of why you would welcome the opportunity to take on this role and join the Hot Tree Editing team.

  • Please provide the contact details of at least two authors whom we can approach for references. If you have no contacts but are sure you have the skills outlined above, please still reach out to us.

Please feel free to include any other relevant details.
